Let's help make Iceland a preferred destination for the future.

In 2016, Festa, SAF and the Icelandic Tourism Cluster held several meetings to discuss cooperation on social responsibility in tourism, including a workshop on Responsible Tourism in January 2016. Subsequently, the Tourism Cluster and Festa decided to work together to implement an incentive campaign for responsible tourism, which should be done in collaboration with as many parties in the tourism industry as possible. As a result, a year later, on January 10, 2017, over 300 companies signed a declaration on Responsible Tourism, thereby committing to publishing their goals in a credible manner by the end of 2017.

The Icelandic Travel Cluster is the main implementing partner for Responsible Tourism today. Festa considers Responsible Tourism to be one of the most important driving forces in the Icelandic economy and wholeheartedly supports the project, even though its implementation is no longer on Festa's agenda. Festa sees it as its role to make a difference where we can move towards sustainability and social responsibility. We are a very small office, but we have been involved in the establishment of motivational and driving forces projects like this and we welcome it when such projects are handed over to key players in the relevant field, in this case the travel industry.
Statement on Responsible Tourism
Ferðaþjónustan á Íslandi er mikilvæg atvinnugrein sem getur stuðlað að langtíma velferð og góðum orðstír þjóðarinnar.
There are many challenges in the tourism industry that relate to corporate social responsibility. These include increasing encroachment on nature, respecting workers' rights, ensuring that the local communities visited by tourists receive a fair share of the benefits, and, last but not least, ensuring that tourists' safety is guaranteed and they are provided with good service.
We, the undersigned, intend to promote responsible tourism by:
- Ganga vel um og virða náttúruna.
- Ensure the safety of our guests and treat them with courtesy.
- Respect the rights of employees.
- Have a positive impact on the local community.
We will set goals for the above aspects, measure and regularly publish information about the company's performance.
