Full house at Deloitte Networking Meeting

There was a record attendance at the Festa Networking Meeting at Deloitte on February 15th, where the company’s sustainability team shared their unique experience and knowledge on sustainability, key regulations, challenges and opportunities. The meeting was attended by representatives from companies, public institutions and ministries that are members of Festa. As usual, when such a diverse group meets to discuss these major projects that we are dealing with, interesting discussions arise.

Deloitte hefur verið aðildarfélag Festu í yfir áratug, er ein af Kjölfestum Festu og í hópi loftslagsleiðtoga Festu. Alþjóðleg WorldClimate stefna Deloitte um áhrif og aðgerðir í loftslagsmálum undirstrikar metnað fyrirtækisins þegar kemur að því að hafa góð áhrif á samfélag og umhverfi, bæði í sínum eigin rekstri með minni kolefnislosun, grænni rekstri og eflingu starfsfólksins og í gegnum áhrif sem þau hafa á viðskiptavini sína sem þau hvetja og styðja til aðgerða í sjálfbærnimálum.

A few points from the meeting:

• It has been a while since all these sustainability regulations were "on the way". Now it is time for their implementation, which will probably result in even further integration of core business operations with sustainability. At the same time, understanding of the issue is becoming increasingly better among senior management. As always, the companies' sustainability experts work on challenging tasks with ambition.

• Eitt dæmi um birtingarmynd á þessari þróun er að farið verður frá því að ársreikningur og sjálfbærniskýrsla séu aðskildar skýrslur í að vera gefið út sem eitt og sama rit.

• This is not mentioned often enough: success is achieved by turning the "obligation" of sustainability work into an opportunity; competitive advantage, the value chain, the financial system, human capital, younger generations and limited resources and the growing impact of climate change.

• Reynsla sjálfbærniteymis Deloitte sýnir að frestun á reglugerðum á Íslandi þjónar ekki íslenskum fyrirtækjum. Kröfurnar munu koma og að hefja vinnuna tímanlega er lykillinn að árangri.

• When we assess sustainability performance, it is difficult to compare companies that do not operate in the same sector, it all depends on the operations and the financial markets and sustainability disclosure framework will take this into account. Everything you do matters.

• Then we heard a new metaphor instead of a marathon: it's more like going up Laugavegur. The hill up to Hrafntinnusker is steep, rugged and long, and we're all somewhere there. The rest of Laugavegur is so much easier, with magnificent views and better-trodden paths that are easier to walk.
