Marel receives incentive award for sustainability report of the year

Today, Festa, Stjórnvísi and the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce awarded the sustainability report of the year, and it was the high-tech company Marel that received the award. This is the sixth time that the award has been given and 35 reports were nominated. An overview of this year's nominations can be found here.

The jury's reasoning states that the report disclosed information that goes beyond simply complying with regulations:

"Marel's sustainability report means that it presents the reader with information that is actually used to add value to the company, and not as a mandatory exercise to comply with regulations. Marel has set ambitious goals and, among other things, the company plans to reduce emissions from scope 1 and 2 by 42% by 2030 compared to 2021 and by 25% in scope 3. Marel also plans to recycle 90% of its waste by 2026 and aims for carbon neutrality of the value chain by 2040. It is therefore really nice to be able to recognize Marel for its 2023 sustainability report."

The jury consisted of Reynir Smári Atlason, Head of Sustainability, Head of Sustainability at Creditinfo, Jóhanna Hlín Auðunsdóttir, Head of Climate and Environment at Landsvirkjun and Stefán Kári Sveinbjörnsson, Project Manager in Strategy and Sustainability at Isavia. To support them, an expert panel was appointed to evaluate all the reports. It consisted of three students at Reykjavík University who have completed a course related to sustainability reporting, Heiðrún Örna Ottesen Þóroddsdóttir, Kári Jón Hannesson and Jóhanna Sól Erlendsdóttir. We thank the jury and expert panel for their extremely well-done work.

Marel hefur verið aðildarfélag Festu síðan 2016 og er óhætt að segja að fyrirtækið hafi skapað sér sérstöðu með því að setja sjálfbærnimál á oddinn með góðum árangri.
