BYKO og Landsvirkjun hlutu í dag viðurkenningu fyrir eftirtektarverðustu samfélagsskýrslur ársins.

This time, for the first time, two companies are receiving recognition for their social reporting. Companies that are different in nature and therefore approach sustainability in their operations in different ways. Both parties emphasize quality presentation, transparency and targeted information provision. The reports are constructive contributions to the preparation and development of reports on social responsibility and sustainability.

The recognition is a collaborative project between Festa – the Center for Corporate Social Responsibility, Stjórnvís and the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, and this is the fourth time that the recognition has been given. The goal of the recognition for the Corporate Social Responsibility Report of the Year is to encourage companies to set measurable goals and regularly publish, in a quality manner, information on how corporate social responsibility and sustainability in operations deliver increased benefits to them and society. Clear policy, implementation and disclosure are the path to successful operations.

Annars vegar er um að ræða fyrirtæki í smásölu sem er að stíga sín fyrstu skref í gerð samfélagsskýrslu en þetta er önnur skýrsla fyrirtækisins. Það selur aðföng til stórs hóps neytenda sem og fagaðila í starfsemi sem hefur veruleg umhverfisáhrif og byggir rekstur sinn á margþættri virðiskeðju. 

However, it is a company with a long history of building knowledge and policymaking related to social responsibility. It bases its operations on the utilization of natural resources, which has a wide direct and indirect impact domestically. The company relies on extensive knowledge and human resources related to sustainability and has a multifaceted relationship with domestic and foreign stakeholders.

Although the companies' approaches to sustainability differ, they both emphasize quality presentation, transparency, and targeted disclosure. The reports are therefore constructive contributions to the development of corporate social responsibility and sustainability reporting.

Í áliti dómnefndar segir að skýrsla Landsvirkjunar hafi verið bæði ítarleg og markviss. Hún gerir vel grein fyrir lykiláherslum varðandi sjálfbærni í rekstri með vísan til umhverfis, samfélags og efnahags. Umfjöllun og áherslur tengjast skýrt kjarnastarfsemi fyrirtækisins. Áherslurnar byggja á greiningu og samtali við haghafa sem og þáttum í rekstri sem eru mikilvægir samkvæmt mikilvægisgreiningu

Regarding BYKO's report, the jury says that it is noteworthy that it explains the company's operating model and vision for the future regarding social responsibility. The report discusses the implementation of policies, goals, indicators and results regarding sustainability in a targeted and clear manner. It explains what is being done well, but also openly explains challenges and goals that have not been achieved. There is also an emphasis on educating employees, contractors and suppliers regarding sustainability.

“It is of great value to our stakeholders that BYKO publishes information about the company's sustainability journey. It has an inspiring effect both within the company and externally. By telling people what is being done, participating in sustainability projects, educating employees and customers, and offering eco-friendly alternatives in building materials, it has an inspiring effect on everyone. We are taking responsibility in the value chain, with numbers, words and pictures. We are setting a positive example and want to be a role model and an inspiration for others,” says Berglind Ósk Ólafsdóttir, sustainability expert at BYKO.

“Við hjá Landsvirkjun höfum allt frá stofnun fyrirtækisins horft til þess að hafa jákvæð áhrif á samfélag og umhverfi og leitum sífellt nýrra leiða til að auka sjálfbærni í starfsemi okkar” segir Hörður Arnarson forstjóri Landsvirkjunar. “Það er þess vegna einkar ánægjulegt að hljóta viðurkenningu sem þessa, og staðfesting á því að starf okkar er að skila sér, bæði sem okkar framlag til sjálfbærari veraldar og einnig – vonandi – sem innblástur fyrir önnur fyrirtæki sem vilja gera vel í þessum mikilvæga málaflokki”



"It is therefore particularly gratifying to receive recognition like this, and confirmation that our work is paying off."



Á viðburðinum, sem fram fór í Húsi atvinnulífsins í dag 8. júní, hélt Hrund Gunnsteinsdóttir framkvæmdastjóri Festu erindi þar sem hún lagði áherslu á að upplýsingagjöf um sjálfbærni þurfi að endurspegla árangursríkar aðgerðir til breytinga og áhrifa á rekstur á náttúru, fólk og stjórnarhætti, “sjálfbærni er ekki viðbót við rekstur, hún er nær því að vera tilgangur hans í dag”.

The meeting was moderated by Konráð Guðjónsson, Deputy Director General of the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, and Íris Ösp Björnsdóttir, Director of Business Development and Operations at Nasdaq Iceland, led the panel discussions.
